Ellen Barry

Ellen is a singer and song weaver based in Ōtautahi, Christchurch. A lover of the paired-back simplicity of guitar and voice, Ellen blends creative, vocal melodies and poetic verse with lush fingerpicking. Her sound has been described as unique and evocative, with an unexpected, raw edge; and a voice that can quiet a room.

Lyrically, there are threads of relationality in her songs; a love of exploring what is held in the beautifully complex, inner, human landscape; what tethers us to each other and the Earth. From finding moments of completeness in the company of small creatures, to the medicine of friendship, from permission to grieve loss, to the delight of being unexpectedly seen by a stranger, Ellen values sharing the personal, sometimes unspoken but relatable moments of life, with humour, lightness and an aura of quiet mystique.

Over the past year she has been recording some of her solo works and will be releasing these in 2026.

Ellen is also offering a workshop for those who are curious about the holistic, health benefits of expressing ourselves through sound and song. As an Embodied guide and Yoga Therapist, Ellen has well over a decade of studying the body through various modalities. She is excited to blend her knowledge of physiology and energetics, sound and nervous system health, for a deeply nourishing and experiential offering, welcome to all.
